Turkey's Defense Minister Discusses the Armenian Genocide

Turkey's Defense Minister Hulusi Akar addressed reporters in the parliament regarding the call by senators to officially recognize the Armenian Genocide, directed at US President Joe Biden, according to Ermenihaber.

Akar noted that this issue frequently comes to the forefront in March and April. Reiterating the sentiments of the Turkish authorities, he stated that they have discussed, debated, and had conversations about this matter numerous times and will continue to do so.

Akar asserted that there are written records in the US National Archives on this topic, urging intellectuals, including US politicians and media representatives, to explore these archives.

It is worth mentioning that 37 senators from the United States have joined a letter from Senator Robert Menendez, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, calling on President Joe Biden to follow Congress's lead and officially recognize the Armenian Genocide. In the letter, Menendez reminded Biden that he has recognized the Armenian Genocide in the past, including during the 2020 presidential campaign. “We urge you to do the same now as president, clarifying that the US government acknowledges this horrific truth,” the letter states.
