64 Armenian Soldiers Detained in Azerbaijan Post-War, Says Artak Beglaryan
The Chief of Staff of the President of Artsakh, Artak Beglaryan, has once again raised concerns about the Armenian prisoners held in Azerbaijan through a post on his Twitter account.
“Azerbaijan continues to grossly violate international humanitarian law by exploiting the issue of detained civilians and military prisoners. During the war, many military personnel and civilians were detained, and post-war, 64 soldiers and a group of civilians remain imprisoned in Azerbaijan,” wrote Beglaryan.
The official noted that Azerbaijan has neither informed nor confirmed the post-war detentions with either the International Committee of the Red Cross or Russian peacekeepers.
It is worth mentioning that earlier, Siranuhi Sahakyan, representing the interests of Armenian prisoners at the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), stated that the confirmed number of Armenian prisoners in Azerbaijan is 120. It is known that criminal cases have been initiated against 62 military personnel classified as prisoners in Azerbaijan on charges of terrorism.
