Syunici Residents Block Goris-Kapan Interstate Road Demanding Security Guarantees

Residents of the Syunik region have blocked the Goris-Kapan interstate road. According to Armenpress, they are demanding security guarantees from the authorities.

The protest is driven by the fact that by December 18 at 17:00, certain positions in the area adjacent to the Goris-Kapan road are expected to be vacated. The citizens seek security guarantees for the villages in that area and for safe travel along the road.

As part of a working visit to the Syunik region, on December 17, Armenian Defense Minister Vagharshak Harutyunyan stated that the border is being delineated in the presence of high-ranking officers from both sides, reassuring that no meter of Armenian territory will be conceded.

It was emphasized that Russian border guards will carry out control in those areas, with agreements already reached, which will create additional guarantees for strengthening the security system. Vagharshak Harutyunyan also noted that a comprehensive set of measures is being undertaken to ensure the security of these zones, including forming new military units and constructing new infrastructure, with this process expected to continue.
