A Number of Individuals Captured Before the War Have Also Returned to the Homeland - Artak Zeynalyan
We are pleased to announce the return of some Armenian captives held in Azerbaijan. As part of this process, individuals who were captured during the large-scale war that began on September 27, 2020, including both military personnel and civilians, as well as those captured prior to the war, have returned home. We had also taken on the responsibility of defending the rights of the latter group at the European Court of Human Rights.
More than half of the returning individuals are those captives for whom we filed complaints against Azerbaijan at the European Court to protect their rights. We will inform the public about our further steps aimed at the full restoration of their rights at a later time. At the same time, we reaffirm our commitment to continue taking systematic steps towards the return of other Armenian captives still held in Azerbaijan.
This was stated in a statement issued by human rights defender and former Minister of Justice Artak Zeynalyan.
