Azerbaijani Taliş Activists Call on Their Fellow Countrymen Not to Fight Against Armenians
Azerbaijani Taliş activists have expressed concern over the escalating tensions in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone and the systematic efforts of the Azerbaijani government to send Taliş individuals to the frontline. They have issued a statement published on the ‘Təşistan’ page of the social network Facebook.
According to Armenpress, the Taliş activists noted that, while defending the friendship and brotherhood among the peoples of the Caucasus, they respect international norms regarding the right of peoples to determine their own destinies.
“This conflict has no military solution, as it will only lead to problems for future generations. We are extremely concerned about the Azerbaijani authorities' actions in sending Taliş people to the battlefield, the casualties among the Taliş, and the efforts to sow hatred towards Armenians. Most Taliş are dissatisfied with this situation. On one hand, the Azerbaijani government suppresses any expression of freedom of speech in the country. On the other hand, it is exploited by those with close ties to the government, showing that there is hatred among the Taliş towards Armenians.
We call on the Azerbaijani government to finally end the policy of instilling hatred among the Taliş. We urge Taliş individuals not to succumb to hate propaganda. We call on them to avoid participating in confrontations. Throughout our history, we have never been enemies of any people, and we will continue on this path,” they emphasized in their statement.
