Adjara Declared a 'Red Zone'

According to Marina Ezugbaya, the director of Tbilisi Infectious Diseases Hospital, the increase in the number of infected people in the country indicates that the spread of coronavirus in Georgia has become intense and questions its controllability. As a result, the level of confirmed cases of the disease has changed in the country over the past two weeks.

The situation is particularly concerning in Adjara. In the last 24 hours, out of a record 45 new cases of COVID-19 reported in Georgia, 23 were registered in Adjara.

“The situation in Adjara is more serious; the incidence rate there is 42.4 percent, which means that Adjara is considered a 'red zone'. I believe there will be a need for additional measures in Adjara. For example, it will be necessary to strengthen the control mechanisms and expand the testing scale,” stated Marina Ezugbaya during a press conference with journalists.
