Beirut: Rescuers sadly report no hope of finding any survivors
In Beirut, over the past three days, 50 rescuers and volunteers, including a group of specialists from Chile, have attempted to find survivors beneath the rubble after experts detected signs of breathing and heat in the area using special sensors. According to Reuters, rescuers conducting search and recovery operations for the third day beneath the debris of a building have reported that there is now no hope of finding any survivors in the area, following the devastating explosion that occurred about a month ago.
Francesco Lermanda, head of the rescue team, stated, “We will never stop working, even if there is a one percent chance. We will never cease until the operations are fully carried out.”
It is recalled that a powerful explosion rocked the Lebanese capital Beirut on August 4 due to the detonation of a large stockpile of ammonium nitrate stored at the port. The explosion resulted in the deaths of 190 people, thousands injured, and tens of thousands left homeless.
