«Hraparak». It's Possible That LHK Will File a No-Confidence Motion Against the Minister of Education in Autumn
«Hraparak» reports: The list of those demanding the resignation of Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports Arayik Harutyunyan is expected to expand in the near future. It is likely that protests against the minister will shift from "Arayik, step down" to "Nikol, step down". For a considerable time, the public organization "Vonk" has been organizing protests demanding Harutyunyan's resignation. The Youth Organization of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) has been actively involved, joined by students from the Armenian Language and Literature Department at Yerevan State University.
ARF members are dissatisfied with Harutyunyan’s recent legislative proposal, which makes the subjects of "Armenian Language", "Armenian Literature", and "Armenian History" optional instead of mandatory in higher education programs. Recently, Gagik Tsarukyan, the leader of the Prosperous Armenia Party (BHK), emphasized his discontent with the minister during a meeting with the party’s Kotayk regional committee. He stated, "We are also collecting signatures and organizing a major rally. Those who do not want church courses to be removed, and sexual education courses to be conducted, and Armenian literature and history to be removed, and the word 'Armenian' to be eliminated, we cannot allow that. Our children must be educated and raised with Armenian literature and Armenian education."
We have also learned that it is possible that during the upcoming autumn session of the National Assembly, which starts on September 14, the LHK may also present a no-confidence motion against Arayik Harutyunyan. Before the recess, the LHK submitted questions to the Minister of Education concerning issues that the faction is concerned about and related to educational reforms. The response to the inquiry will be discussed in the near future.
