Ara Abrahamyan Calls for Strong Response to Attacks on Armenians in Moscow and Discrimination

Leader of the Union of Armenians of Russia, Ara Abrahamyan, called for a strong response to the attacks on Armenians and instances of discrimination in Moscow during an interview with Sputnik Armenia.

“As you know, all of this has been ongoing for more than a week. People have felt impunity in their statements and actions; the time has passed, and mass clashes have begun. The situation is now under the control of the presidential administration, and both Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin and Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov have met with the diaspora,” said Abrahamyan.

According to him, even during the military conflict in the 1990s, there was no such aggression. The current conflict is artificially created, provoked by irresponsible and aggressive statements. The dissemination of videos exacerbates the situation.

On this issue, the position of the Armenians is clear: provocations and violations of anyone’s rights are unacceptable. This particularly concerns the limitation of the rights of ethnic Armenians living in Russia. “Russia is their homeland, and they cannot be subjected to discrimination and aggression from any side,” he stated.

“Authorities must respond strictly to such attempts at destabilization. In fact, we want three things: first, stabilization. Second, the development of legal mechanisms to prevent the recurrence of this situation in the future. Authorities must respond sternly to such matters. Third, now all perpetrators must be punished,” emphasized Abrahamyan.

In turn, the Union of Armenians of Russia is also working to gather intellectuals and youth, explaining to them that the issue must be resolved calmly. “Where is Azerbaijan in this case? Why doesn’t it make a statement that aggression is unacceptable?” Abrahamyan noted. He also mentioned that the issue regarding Armenian goods is being resolved. The “Food City” commercial network has already started accepting Armenian trucks, while work is being conducted with the “Your Home” network.
