Azerbaijan's Ministry of Defense Confirms Reports of High-Ranking Military Casualties
Azerbaijan's Deputy Minister of Defense Kerim Veliev has announced that two high-ranking officers were killed as a result of combat operations near the border with Armenia.
“Unfortunately, I must announce that Major General Polad Hashimov and Colonel Ilgar Mirzeyev have been killed in the fighting,” Veliev said during a briefing.
It is worth noting that earlier, information had spread on Azerbaijani social media regarding the deaths of Major General Hashimov and Colonel Mirzeyev. According to observations by Razminfo, Polad Hashimov was the chief of staff of the 3rd Corps, while Ilgar Mirzeyev was the artillery commander of the same corps. Hashimov was promoted to general on June 25, 2019.
