Birth Rate in Armenia Decreases by 3.2 Percent
From January to May of this year, the number of deaths registered in Armenia decreased by 2.1 percent compared to the same period in 2019. According to information published by the Statistical Committee, there were 11,547 recorded deaths in the first five months of this year, compared to 11,795 during the same period in 2019.
Among these, 6,398 people died from circulatory system diseases. The second leading cause of death was neoplasms, resulting in 2,215 fatalities. Respiratory system diseases accounted for 1,067 deaths, and digestive system diseases caused 588 fatalities. According to the Statistical Committee, 105 people died from the COVID-19 virus in Armenia between January and May.
During the first five months of this year, the birth rate in Armenia has decreased by 3.2 percent, with 12,894 babies born compared to 13,322 in the same period last year. The natural increase has amounted to 1,347, representing an 11.8 percent decline compared to the previous year.
