Widespread Pressure on 'Enlightened Armenia': New Details from 'Joghavourd'
The newspaper 'Joghavourd' reports: 'In recent days, there has been widespread pressure exerted on the members of the National Assembly's 'Enlightened Armenia' parliamentary group. According to information from the 'Joghavourd' daily, this pressure has come from both Robert Kocharyan and various factions within the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), as well as representatives of the current government. They all tried to send 'messages' and arrange meetings with the members of the 'Enlightened Armenia' group, but it did not work out.
Former governing parties, now in opposition, have tried everything to pressure the 'Enlightened Armenia' party to join the Gagik Tsarukyan party's petition and appeal to the Constitutional Court of Armenia to contest the bill regarding the impeachment of Constitutional Court judges. Meanwhile, the current government has also attempted to influence the members of 'Enlightened Armenia' not to join the petition, allowing Constitutional Court judges Alvina Gyulumyan, Felix Tokhyan, and Hrant Nazaryan to resign from their positions.
Ultimately, the 'Enlightened Armenia' group decided to choose a third path and appeal to the Constitutional Court after July 7, when the court proceedings regarding former President Robert Kocharyan are scheduled to take place. After that, they will present their demands to ensure it does not appear that 'Enlightened Armenia' has defended Robert Kocharyan in the Constitutional Court. However, they also want to highlight that they did not succumb to the pressure from the current government and, nonetheless, went to the Constitutional Court.'
