The Son of the RA Police Chief Sent to Army and Subsequently Discharged; Criminal Case Launched

The newspaper "Hayastani Zhamanak" reports that it has received noteworthy information regarding Colonel Alexander Agajanyan, the acting head of the Military Police of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Armenia, and his son.

Specifically, it became known that a criminal case has been initiated in connection with Agajanyan's son at the Military Investigative Department of the RA. The issue is that, according to our sources, Agajanyan's son was conscripted into mandatory military service months ago; however, after his father was appointed as the acting head of the RA Police, he was discharged from service.

Now, the RA Prosecutor General’s Office has launched a criminal case regarding Agajanyan's son’s discharge from the army and has referred it to the Military Investigative Department. The newspaper "Hayastani Zhamanak" tried to clarify this information from Rima Yeganyan, the head of the public relations department of the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia. "D. Agajanyan, having health issues, was conscripted into mandatory military service on 19.07.2019. A criminal case has been initiated under part 1 of Article 315 of the RA Criminal Code at the fourth garrison investigative department of the Military Investigative Branch of the RA Investigative Committee," she stated.

As it turns out, the investigative body is currently verifying which doctors provided erroneous conclusions that led to the conscription of a young man with health problems into the army. We hope that the ongoing investigation will provide answers to these questions, and that it will not turn out that the medical conclusions were fabricated.
