Medical Staff, 30,000 Tests, 60,000 Sample Containers: Lithuania Sends Aid to Armenia

The ceremony for sending medical personnel and aid from the government of Lithuania to Armenia took place at the Šiauliai Airport. This was reported by the Embassy of Armenia in Lithuania.

On June 19, at the Šiauliai Airport in Lithuania, the government of Lithuania organized a ceremony to dispatch medical personnel and medical aid to Armenia. In addition to eight healthcare workers and three specialists, Lithuania is also sending 30,000 coronavirus tests and 60,000 sample containers, as well as 20,000 air purifier filters produced in Lithuania.

During the press conference held afterwards, comments were made by Aurelijus Veryga, Lithuania's Minister of Health, Tigran Mkrtchyan, the Armenian Ambassador to Lithuania, Rasa Kačiušaitė, Director of the International Cooperation Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, and the directors of the largest Santariškės and Panevėžys hospitals in Lithuania.

Minister Veryga expressed pride that Lithuania can assist Armenia during this challenging time. He also emphasized that along with the medical staff, three specialists who have been working in the coordinating headquarters since the very first days of the coronavirus crisis are traveling to Armenia and have made significant contributions to the efforts to contain the pandemic in Lithuania. In conclusion, Minister Veryga expressed hope that the assistance being sent to their Armenian friends will help them overcome the pandemic.

Ambassador Tigran Mkrtchyan, in his remarks, expressed gratitude to the Lithuanian government and all involved agencies, noting that Lithuania was the first to respond to the call to send medical personnel to Armenia and remains the only country to provide assistance at the state level for the second time. The ambassador also mentioned that Lithuania is sending not only valuable medical supplies but also its most precious resource: human capital.
