Erdogan and Trump Hold Phone Conversation
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and US President Donald Trump have had a phone conversation, discussing a range of regional and bilateral issues. According to Fahrettin Altun, head of the Turkish president's communications office, the leaders agreed to continue close cooperation in the fields of health and economy aimed at combating the coronavirus.
The phone conversation was also addressed by White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders. "Today, President Donald Trump spoke with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. President Trump and President Erdogan discussed recent developments regarding the coronavirus, global economic challenges and addressed a range of issues regarding regional and bilateral cooperation," noted Sanders.
Currently, the number of confirmed coronavirus cases worldwide stands at 2,407,439, with 165,073 deaths reported. The World Health Organization declared a pandemic on March 11. The virus has spread to 210 countries. Chinese authorities notified the WHO about the outbreak on December 31.
