What Principles Will Support Students Receive? Prime Minister Provides Details
The Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, has made a post on his Facebook page detailing the principles of support that students will receive under the anti-crisis 14th initiative.
“1. Tuition fees for students in state universities who are in the final year of the bachelor's, master's, and residency programs with a GPA of 90 and above will be covered 100% by the government. For students in non-graduating courses who have a GPA of 90 and above, the tuition fees will be covered at 75%. Graduating students who have no outstanding tuition fees can opt out of the support or receive the funds if it was paid by an individual. However, if the tuition was covered by a student loan, the funds will be used to service the loan. Such funds will be utilized to finance other students’ loans.
2. The procedure for granting student loans will be simplified. For students with a GPA of 80 and above, the interest rates on current and newly issued loans for 2020 will be set to zero, including for students from government-accredited universities.
3. For students with a GPA below 80, the interest rates on loans will be subsidized by 5%, meaning that loans will be available at an interest rate of 4%. It should be noted that students will service the principal of the loan after completing their education,” stated the Prime Minister's post.
