Discussion on Extradition of Armenian Accused of Killing Azerbaijani Delayed
The discussion regarding the extradition of Misak Lazaryan, accused of murdering an Azerbaijani in 2011 in Russia's Raichikhin, has been postponed until a final decision is made on another criminal case being investigated by the National Security Service of Armenia.
Gor Abrahamyan, advisor to the Attorney General of Armenia, stated this in response to a query from Armenpress.
He noted that the measure of restraint applied to Misak Lazaryan has been changed from extradition detention to a signature not to leave, based on the decision of the senior prosecutor of the Ajapnyak and Davtashen administrative districts.
"First, I would like to mention that the detention as a preventive measure was chosen based on the request from the Attorney General's Office of Russia to hand over Lazaryan to the relevant authorities for criminal prosecution. In such cases, the criminal procedure law does not provide for any alternatives at this stage. The prosecutor's decision to change the measure of restraint was due to the fact that Lazaryan has been charged under part 1 of Article 325 of the RA Criminal Code (in two episodes) and has been subjected to a signature not to leave as a preventive measure," he explained.
Abrahamyan also emphasized that, in this context, the discussion regarding the extradition of Lazaryan to the relevant Russian authorities has been postponed until a final decision is made on the aforementioned criminal case being investigated by the National Security Service of Armenia.
