Justice Ministry Initiates Disciplinary Proceedings Against Judge Azaryan
According to "Factinfo," the Justice Ministry has initiated disciplinary proceedings against Court of Appeal Judge Alexander Azaryan this April.
The reason for the initiation of disciplinary proceedings is related to the remarks made during a closed court session concerning the preventive measure of Armen Tavadyan, the owner of "5th Channel".
It should be noted that Alexander Azaryan is considered one of the best judges in Armenia. He has been recognized as the judge with the highest rating for two consecutive years and, as of April 14, 2020, he again holds the highest rating with 53 points.
Despite this, Judge Alexander Azaryan has faced unprecedented pressure following a court ruling in August 2018, which established that the second president of Armenia, Robert Kocharyan, enjoys functional immunity. This ruling led to the reversal of the preventive measure taken against Robert Kocharyan, which was arrest.
The second wave of pressure began when the court, presided over by Judge Azaryan, granted a defense appeal against the extension of Armen Tavadyan's detention, highlighting the absence of well-founded suspicion.
