Garni-Yerevan Main Water Pipe Under Renovation
The damaged Garni-Yerevan main water pipe is currently being renovated. It is possible that consumer water supply will resume on the morning of February 21. This information was provided to Armenpress by the public relations department of Veolia Water.
According to Henrik Martirosyan, head of the Erebuni operational site, the removal of residual water from this large pipeline, which is approximately 40 km long, has been completed, and renovation work has commenced.
The accident occurred not far from the Nubarashen landfill, in a gorge. Two pipes of the water conduit have separated by 5-6 cm, likely due to soil erosion, which caused water to jet out forcefully, washing away the surrounding earth.
Work is also planned to continue at night under floodlights to expedite the renovation process. However, additional hours will be needed to refill the pipeline with water and ensure sufficient pressure is maintained in the distribution network. Nevertheless, Erebuni officials are working with the expectation that water supply to consumers will resume tomorrow morning.
