There is a Subtext of Speculation in the Official Information of the NSS: YSU's Response

The Scientific Council of the Faculty of Law at Yerevan State University (YSU) has issued a statement regarding the information that the National Security Service (NSS) uncovered cases of corruption at YSU.

“The Scientific Council of the Faculty of Law at YSU expresses its concern about the unclear and seemingly unfounded statements found in the video published today by the NSS of the Republic of Armenia. We consider it necessary to note that the YSU Faculty of Law has consistently condemned and waged a persistent fight against all types of corruption and its manifestations.

In our deep conviction, the official information of the NSS contains a subtext of speculation, which directly and unjustifiably harms the high reputation of the Faculty of Law at YSU, overshadowing the good reputation of the faculty's distinguished academic staff and student body. We urge law enforcement agencies of the RA to demonstrate maximum legal correctness and specificity when disseminating information containing elements of a crime, in order to guarantee the presumption of innocence and avoid unwarranted speculation,” the statement reads.

It should be noted that the National Security Service of the Republic of Armenia has uncovered cases of bribery as part of operational-intelligence measures and investigative actions undertaken within the scope of its legally reserved authorities in the fight against crime and various manifestations of corruption.
