Hayk Marutyan's Wife Actively Involved in City Hall Affairs, Warning Issued
The newspaper "Haykakan Zhamanak" reports that a significant incident recently occurred between the Yerevan City Council's "My Step" faction and Mayor Hayk Marutyan, involving Marutyan's wife, the Czech Ivana.
Since Marutyan's election as mayor, she has been actively engaged in her husband's affairs, spending considerable time at City Hall. Essentially, she has taken on the role of advisor or assistant to the Yerevan Mayor, negotiating with various individuals, mediating on appointments, and meeting with candidates.
Recently, council members summoned Hayk Marutyan for a discussion and specifically raised concerns that his wife should no longer interfere in the official functions of the mayor's office. Marutyan listened to their concerns and proposed that a meeting be organized the next day, including his wife, to hear her perspective.
It has come to light that through her influence, Armen Begoyan was recently appointed as the head of the "Greening and Environmental Protection" State Non-Commercial Organization. Notably, Begoyan was previously the director of the center for the neutering of stray animals, while the mayor's wife is involved in animal protection issues.
Interestingly, some time after that appointment, Ivana and one of Hayk Marutyan's advisors met with Begoyan, during which the mayor's wife told him that he had lost their trust and needed to resign.
