Fact: Who Will Replace Vahagn Vermishyan?

The newspaper "Fact" writes that, as is known, the chairman of the Urban Development Committee, Vahagn Vermishyan, has been arrested for receiving a particularly large bribe. The Prime Minister assessed this fact as "on the one hand sad and offensive, but on the other hand a joyful event."

The sadness and offense are understandable, whereas the joyful aspect is framed as, "because if there was anyone in Armenia who doubted the authority's willingness to uproot corruption, they will now understand that everything is much more serious."

According to the newspaper's sources, among others, the candidacy of Armen Ghulyan, the deputy chairman of the Urban Development Committee, is being discussed first and foremost to replace Vermishyan. If he is indeed appointed, it will be a remarkably noteworthy decision in terms of the fact that he is, so to speak, from the 'old guard.'

Ghulyan has been affiliated with the Republican Party and left the party five months after the change of power. He has held positions for many years as the governor of Tavush and later as the deputy minister of urban development.

Incidentally, during his tenure, information was periodically published in the media indicating that Ghulyan's family has businesses in various sectors, including gas distribution pressure stations and bread production.

Ghulyan is from Ijevan, and according to our sources, he has a close relationship with the prime minister, and this circumstance could play a significant role.
