Ukraine Seeks to Avoid Involvement in U.S. Domestic Affairs: Zelensky
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky stated in an interview with the Times of Israel that he strives for good relations with the United States but does not want Ukraine and its citizens to be drawn into Washington's domestic affairs.
"I have not done anything illegal... As the President of Ukraine, I have done everything I could to ensure we have good, reliable, strong relations with one of our strategic partners, the United States," Zelensky said.
At the same time, the Ukrainian president emphasized that he has always tried to avoid involving Ukraine and its citizens in U.S. domestic matters. "This is their country, and they handle their country as they see fit. And I do not want them to draw us into affairs related to their internal politics," added the Ukrainian president.
Zelensky had previously stated in November that they would not interfere in the upcoming U.S. elections. In December, the U.S. House of Representatives initiated an impeachment process against the American president on two counts: abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. Democrats accuse Trump of soliciting political services from Ukraine's President Zelensky in exchange for American aid. Trump denies the allegations.
