Senator Who Blocked Genocide Resolution Preparing Sanctions Package Against Turkey

Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, who vetoed the discussion of the resolution recognizing the Armenian Genocide on November 13, is preparing a sanctions package against Turkey. Graham announced this, stating that the new package will be an updated version of the sanctions package adopted by the House of Representatives on October 29, according to RegionMonitor.

Graham indicated that they plan to bring the sanctions bill to the Senate agenda next week. Reports suggest that the bill prepared by Graham and Democratic Senator Chris Van Hollen includes sanctions targeting the assets of senior Turkish officials and areas of Turkish-American military cooperation.

It is worth noting that on October 29, the U.S. House of Representatives adopted two separate resolutions, the first recognizing the Armenian Genocide and the second imposing sanctions against Turkey. After vetoing the Genocide resolution in the Senate, Graham clarified to the media that he acted this way only at the request of White House representatives and decided to apply his veto only once, keeping his promise. When the resolution was brought before the Senate for the second time, Graham did not veto it; instead, another senator, who had also been requested by the White House, vetoed it.
