Armen Sarkissian Meets with Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili in Tokyo
The President of the Republic of Armenia, Armen Sarkissian, met today in Tokyo with the President of Georgia, Salome Zourabichvili. Both presidents are participating in the official ceremony marking Emperor Naruhito's enthronement in Japan, alongside numerous world leaders.
“We are good neighbors, and it is always pleasant to meet with the president of a friendly country,” President Sarkissian remarked while welcoming Salome Zourabichvili.
Emphasizing the millennia-long friendship between the Armenian and Georgian peoples, which is sure to continue for millennia to come, President Armen Sarkissian stated, “We have a very wide spectrum of cooperation and undoubtedly enormous potential. The opportunities for our joint activities are much greater, and together we can accomplish much more for our countries and peoples.”
President Salome Zourabichvili, for her part, noted that the two peoples have a long journey ahead of them, and it is up to them to determine how to utilize the significant potential available in the region. She invited her Armenian counterpart to visit Georgia officially.
The two presidents discussed mutually beneficial cooperation in various sectors. President Sarkissian particularly emphasized the need for collaboration in the framework of presidential initiatives, which could encompass new technologies and education sectors.
The interlocutors exchanged thoughts on regional cooperation and developments as well. Noting that the Caucasus is a region where different civilizations and cultures intersect and that there are considerable opportunities for cooperation and joint projects, they agreed that respect, tolerance, and stability are essential and necessary conditions for progress.
