Changes to Car Buying Regulations for Foreigners in Armenia to Take Effect July 1, 2020
As of today, the decision adopted by the Government on September 26 regarding amendments to the Government of the Republic of Armenia's decision No. 1251-N of September 9, 2010, is in effect. This decision regulates the legal relations related to the confirmation of residential status for foreigners, stateless persons, recognized refugees, asylum seekers, and temporary protected refugees when registering vehicles.
The section pertaining to changes in car sales regulations states that foreigners will need to provide proof of legal residence in Armenia—either a permanent or temporary residence card, or a special passport of the Republic of Armenia—to purchase a car in the country. The new regulations regarding car purchases for foreigners will be implemented starting July 1, 2020.
It is worth noting that on October 3, car importers held a protest in front of the Government building. They demanded the removal of restrictions for citizens of other EAEU member states and an extension of two months beyond January 1, 2020, to clear vehicles at current customs prices.
