Attacks on Media Endanger Freedom of Speech and Dissent: Human Rights Defender
Attacks on journalists or media outlets in connection with their professional activities endanger freedom of speech and dissent. This is unacceptable. This statement was made by the Human Rights Defender of Armenia, Arman Tatoyan, on his Facebook page, addressing the recent attack on the 'Hayeli' press club.
Tatoyan emphasized, 'Appropriate legal measures must be taken immediately regarding the incident with Hayeli.am to prevent any recurrence of such cases.'
It is reported that today, four young individuals barricaded the 'Hayeli' press club. They threw eggs at the club's doors and posted banners. One of them, identifying himself as citizen David Hovhannisyan, stated that they demand the closure of the media outlet.
They indicated that the reason for their protest was an article published on the Hayeli.am website titled 'Aliyev's Delayed but Powerful Response to Pashinyan.'
