Izmirlian Medical Center Director Denies Allegations of Faking Medical History for Kocharian

Armen Charchyan, the director of the Izmirlian Medical Center, has issued a statement clarifying the recent claims regarding the fabrication of a medical history for former President Robert Kocharian.

The statement is as follows:

Dear compatriots,

Today I learned from media reports that "former President Robert Kocharian approached me with a request to fabricate a medical history for him, and I even consulted on this matter with His Holiness, the Catholicos of All Armenians" (quote from the publication).

This published information is absolutely false and is a grotesque attempt to tarnish the good reputation of the Izmirlian Medical Center, which operates under the auspices of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin. We find such aspirations unacceptable.

Interestingly, while currently on vacation abroad, I felt compelled to inform our compatriots about this unfounded, unverified information after reading the article.

The entire team at the Izmirlian Medical Center is composed of highly professional individuals, which means that:

• We, as doctors, are completely apolitical and do not care who is before us;
• We will never engage in forgery;
• What is paramount for us is the health of the patient, regardless of their ethnic, racial, religious, or any other affiliation.

In every patient’s treatment, there must be complete dedication and the utmost effort made.

I personally am a person who adheres to spiritual values and have faith. Out of boundless respect and humility towards His Holiness Karekin II, Catholicos of All Armenians, I, as the director of the Izmirlian Medical Center, have never allowed myself to discuss any medical issues with him, especially not concerning any patients who have sought our assistance.

The Catholicos of Armenia, however caring he may be towards the Izmirlian Medical Center, is highly removed from such matters. My dear people, value your professionals, all of them, regardless of their specialties. They are the pillars of our society.
