Sergey Lavrov and US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo Meet

In New York, within the framework of the UN General Assembly, a meeting has commenced between Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, reports ria.ru.

According to the source, immediately after taking their seats at the negotiation table, journalists began shouting questions; however, Lavrov and Pompeo refrained from making any comments to the press, as reported by tert.am.

The meeting lasted almost an hour and was held in a closed format for the media. As informed the day before by Anatoly Antonov, the Russian ambassador in Washington, Moscow had previously hoped that Lavrov and Pompeo would be able to focus on improving relations. However, they are now required to begin discussions on visa and sanctions issues that Washington has set this week.
