No Grounds to Claim That Haik Harutyunyan Was Murdered, Says Deputy Head of the Investigative Committee

Currently, there are no grounds to claim that Haik Harutyunyan has been murdered. This was stated today during a press briefing by Vladimir Hovhannisyan, the Deputy Head of the Investigative Committee.

In response to a question about whether the former police chief's death might be connected to the March 1 case, Hovhannisyan said, “Nothing can be ruled out; a criminal case has been initiated into the case of causing suicide. At the moment, there are no grounds to assert that a murder has occurred. The investigation is being conducted by the Armenian Investigative Committee. For such inquiries, I suggest contacting the mentioned preliminary investigation body,” said Hovhannisyan, without providing additional details.

Hovhannisyan considers the information about the head of the Investigative Committee, Sasun Khachatryan, allegedly coercing former police chief Haik Harutyunyan to testify against former President Robert Kocharyan and high-ranking police officer Gegham Petrosyan as rumors.

It is noteworthy that it was revealed yesterday that former police chief Haik Harutyunyan had died from a gunshot wound to the head.
