Azerbaijan Not Ready for Any Reasonable Discussion: Davit Babayan
Official Stepanakert has held the thesis since the 2000s that a historical peace and reconciliation must be concluded between the peoples. This was stated to Tert.am by Davit Babayan, the spokesperson for the President of Artsakh, referring to Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's statement that the peaceful resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict should be acceptable to the peoples of Artsakh, Azerbaijan, and Armenia.
“If you want the solution to be comprehensive and final, it must be acceptable to everyone and not unilateral. This does not mean that it will happen tomorrow or the day after; it takes years, and if Azerbaijan does not change its rhetoric, it is impossible. Let Azerbaijan say that it also wants it to be acceptable for everyone, but its current abnormal and distorted perception cannot lead to a comprehensive resolution,” noted Davit Babayan.
He emphasized that he does not wish to assess Nikol Pashinyan's statements regarding the situation. “Yes, our approach should be acceptable to them, but we will not take steps that could undermine our security and create temptation for Azerbaijan to resolve the issue through force. In other words, the return of Artsakh is impossible, whether in terms of borders or statuses,” he stated.
Davit Babayan added that, theoretically, such options could exist, but in practical terms, Azerbaijan is currently not ready for any reasonable discussion. “Even if the people are ready for some reconciliation, the authorities poison that people,” he said.
