Chalyan Continues His Winning Streak

Wrestler Karapet Chalyan celebrated his third victory in the 77 kg weight category at the World Wrestling Championships, advancing to the semifinals.

The bout for the Armenian wrestler had a dramatic turn in the quarterfinals. Initially, the referee awarded a single point to his opponent, Belarusian Pavel Lyakhin, after which Chalyan managed to earn two points. In the second period, the Armenian wrestler scored three more points, seemingly securing his victory. However, the Belarusian wrestler became more aggressive, maintaining the tension until the last second. Lyakh managed to bring back only two points, thus Karapet Chalyan achieved victory with a score of 5:4.

In the semifinals, the Armenian wrestler will compete against Swedish Alex Bjurberg, who claimed an impressive victory over Iranian Mohammadi Garayee in the quarterfinals.

It’s worth noting that Chalyan won his first bout against Japanese Shohei Yabikui with a score of 4:2 in a challenging match, and in the 1/8 finals, he decisively defeated Venezuela's Rivas Espinoza with a score of 9:0.

The World Championship commenced in Kazakhstan on September 14, with Armenia represented by Norayr Hakobyan (55 kg), Gevorg Garibyan (60 kg), Slavic Galstyan (63 kg), Karen Aslanyan (67 kg), Malkhas Amoyan (72 kg), Karapet Chalyan (77 kg), Maxim Manukyan (82 kg), Arthur Shahinyan (87 kg), and Arthur Aleksanyan (97 kg).
