Such Conduct Has Been Evident: Gevorg Baghdasaryan on Kocharian's Case
“It is not the case that there was no discussion of the complaint. We have presented our grievances, and separate representatives of the defense have appeared with responses to this,” said Yerevan Prosecutor Gevorg Baghdasaryan to journalists after the conclusion of the hearing regarding the complaints of Armenia’s second president Robert Kocharian, Seyran Ohanyan, Yuri Khachaturov, and Armen Gevorgyan at the Court of Appeals, responding to the remark, “Were you surprised that the court went to the deliberation room, however, in essence, no hearing of the complaint took place?”
According to the prosecutor, the court moved to the deliberation room after reaching certain conclusions regarding the specific conduct of the defense.
When asked if he agreed with the judge's position that the defense aims to delay the proceedings, Prosecutor Baghdasaryan stated, “We have made statements on this several times in previous court sessions. Yes, such conduct has been evident. The Prosecutor General of Armenia also announced, and the prosecution has stated at various times that there are such tendencies.”
In response to a journalist's question about what the next step would be if the court rejects your motion to re-arrest R. Kocharian, G. Baghdasaryan said, “The appeal through the relevant procedural means. The decisions of the Court of Appeals can be appealed in the Court of Cassation. A final position regarding the appeal of the court decision can be expressed after familiarizing ourselves with that court decision. We do not know what court decision will be made based on what arguments. We have presented arguments to the Court of Appeals, and if they are not accepted and no one convinces us otherwise, it will definitely be appealed.”
