I Have No Reason to Distrust the Government: Hrachya Hakobyan on Amulsar
I am not a specialist, it remains to trust the government, and I have no reason to distrust the government. This was the opinion expressed today by Hrachya Hakobyan, a member of the "My Step" faction in the National Assembly, during a conversation with journalists.
“If the government guarantees that in case of risks, air pollution, etc., it will warn about the mine, and if the issue is not resolved within 90 days, then they will legally prohibit the operation of the mine, then I see no reason to distrust,” he said.
Hakobyan disagrees with the viewpoint that there will be a significant wave of public discontent regarding the operation of the Amulsar mine. “There are caring people, environmentalists who are truly concerned and have safety doubts that this situation does not satisfy them. But we all know how many people are directed by various forces. Where were those people when a factory was being built on Amulsar? Why weren’t they seen so much on Facebook with the #seveamulsar hashtag?” Hakobyan highlighted.
In response to the observation that the public is now demanding, he said that the claimant demands, but some are also directed.
When asked how this government’s position differs from the previous government’s stance on Amulsar, the ruling party member replied, “It differs in that it does not make illegal decisions. There is no legal basis to prohibit the operation of the Amulsar mine; the government is not engaging in illegal processes.”
Hrachya Hakobyan also emphasized that he had previously not been oriented whether he was against or in favor of the operation of the Amulsar mine, but now he understands that he has no reason to distrust the government. According to him, other members of the "My Step" faction who were against the Amulsar mine's operation now support Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
