Publishing Names of Sexual Assault Victims on 'DataLex' Violates Rights, MP States

The member of the National Assembly from the 'My Step' faction, Taguhi Tovmasyan, has stated on her Facebook page that the names and surnames of victims in cases of sexual violence are fully published on the 'DataLex' information platform, which, according to her, makes the victims double victims. The MP has addressed the President of the Supreme Judicial Council, requesting that personal data in such cases be kept confidential, allowing only the first letters of names and surnames to be displayed.

“As is known, Armenia's judicial information system is an open information source where one can search for various court case details. Of course, transparency and accessibility are essential and irreplaceable factors, but they should not become a reason or pretext for widespread violations of human rights.

For instance, cases are published on the 'DataLex' platform regarding how this or that soldier has been subjected to sexual assault or harassment in the army. This publicity turns sexual violence victims into double victims.

In this regard, I have sent a letter to the newly elected President of the Supreme Judicial Council, Ruben Vardazaryan, requesting that the personal data of victims in cases involving soldiers and those subjected to sexual harassment be kept confidential, allowing only the first letters of their names and surnames to be published. I am attaching the letter, hoping that this issue will be resolved promptly.”
