MP Edgar Arakelyan Resigns from Mandate: His Statement

The MP from the 'My Step' faction, Edgar Arakelyan, announced on his Facebook page that he has decided to resign from his parliamentary mandate.

"Dear compatriots, after long considerations, I have decided to resign from my parliamentary mandate. The decision is solely mine and is not forced or provoked by anyone. The reasons are purely personal. A person engaged in politics must possess the necessary qualities to engage in politics. I am deeply convinced that several of these essential qualities are lacking in me, which makes me incompatible with this activity.

I apologize to those, especially my family, for whom this step may cause disappointment or other negative feelings. I am convinced that if I do not take this step at this early stage, there will be many reasons for regret in the future, again related to the circumstances mentioned above.

I emphasize once more that this is a personal decision and not a demarche against the possible exploitation of the Amulsar mine, the potential ratification of the Istanbul Convention, or any other process, even though it may coincidentally coincide in timing with these matters. This is no way a step against 'My Step', of which I have had the honor to be a part in recent months. I advise certain known forces and their puppets not to get carried away, as there are simply no grounds for that.

As an ordinary citizen of the Republic of Armenia, I will continue to support the revolutionary team and the executive and legislative authorities it has formed in the challenging path of implementing radical reforms and establishing justice, reinforcing democracy in the country.

I will most likely continue to engage in what I was doing before the extraordinary parliamentary elections. I will return to the IT sector, the world of codes that is so familiar and dear to me. I am confident that this will bring greater benefit to our country.
