Two Accused of Bribery for Exempting Conscripts from Military Service
The National Security Service of the Republic of Armenia has revealed a case of organizing the evasion of mandatory military service for several conscripts in exchange for bribes, following extensive operational and investigative measures.
According to the NSS, preliminary information indicates that a citizen of Armenia, familiar with the intricacies of the work at the military commissariat and the Central Military Medical Commission, exploited his connections among medical professionals. In collaboration with a medical institution employee, he arranged for five conscripts to be exempted or granted deferments from military service during the summer conscription of 2019, based on false diagnoses regarding health issues incompatible with service, in exchange for bribes ranging from $3,000 to $8,000.
A criminal case has been initiated in the investigative department of the NSS based on the relevant articles of the Armenian Criminal Code. An investigation is underway, and charges have been brought against two individuals.
