Investigation Opened into Stork Deaths

Yesterday, we discussed the death of storks in the village of Hovtashen, Ararat Province, which occurred months ago. According to the Environmental and Subsoil Inspectorate, they have referred the case to law enforcement agencies; however, the Investigative Committee and the Police are not aware of this case.

ArmDaily.am learned from the Environmental and Subsoil Inspectorate that they sent the documents concerning the stork deaths to the Office of the Prosecutor General of Armenia on August 6, 2019.

Additionally, the Police informed us that a letter from the Ararat provincial prosecutor's office had been received yesterday by the Artashat Division of the Police, addressing the Environmental and Subsoil Inspectorate's report directed to the Prosecutor General of Armenia concerning the stork deaths in the Hovtashen community and its adjacent areas. The further course of action will be determined in accordance with established procedures. "The circumstances are being clarified. Preparations for the case are underway," they stated.

When asked if it has been established who was responsible for the stork deaths, the police told us: "No, preparations are currently being made for the case."
