We Have a Witness: The Former Minister of Internal Affairs Ordered My Grandfather to Be Beaten, Says Mushegh Saghatelyan's Son

At the end of June, the Armenian Court of Cassation fully granted the appeal of the Chief Prosecutor of Armenia to review the judicial acts issued by the Yerevan Criminal Court and the Court of Appeal regarding Mushegh Saghatelyan's participation in the events of March 1, 2008. The court annulled those acts and sent the case back for a new examination at the Yerevan City Court of First Instance.

In an interview with ArmDaily.am, Saghatelyan's son, Sevada, announced that the first court hearing is scheduled for August 5.

"I think that those who provided false testimonies—the judge and the prosecutor—should face appropriate punishment and answer to the law. If the court does not punish them, we will do it our way," Sevada told the news outlet.

He expressed confidence that the court will be fair; otherwise, he stated, "I have nothing to lose, everyone must pay for the torment and suffering we have endured. Specifically, the former Minister of Internal Affairs, Hayk Harutyunyan, ordered that my grandfather be brutally beaten in 2008. We have a witness," concluded Sevada Saghatelyan.
