Civil Aviation Nearly Excludes Possibility of Drone Near Boeing 737 Belonging to Armenian or Russian Armed Forces
The Civil Aviation Committee has stated that there are no new details regarding the drone that approached a Boeing 737 aircraft flying to Yerevan, which was at an almost equal altitude to the plane. Tigran Serobyan, a leading specialist in the committee’s department for certification of airports and air traffic organization, shared this information in an interview with Tert.am.
According to him, they received an alert from the aircraft's crew and, in accordance with the established procedure, reported it to the law enforcement authorities.
“Efforts are being made to uncover the matter as much as possible, but it must be understood that it is very difficult to identify, as this issue exists not only in Armenia but worldwide. It is still unknown who it belonged to,” he said.
Serobyan noted that there have been comments suggesting that the drone was operated by either the Armenian or Russian armed forces. However, he emphasized that these scenarios are unlikely. “We are informed of any flight conducted by the Ministry of Defense, and generally regarding flights carried out by the Air Force in the Republic of Armenia. There is a joint directive between the Civil Aviation of Armenia, the Chief of the Armed Forces’ Staff, and the Air Force Commander, and we always receive information about any flights. Thus, it is excluded that it could be from the Ministry of Defense,” said Serobyan.
Concerning the theory regarding professional flights for weapon testing intended for sale to the Defense Ministry, Serobyan highlighted that this too is nearly excluded, as they are in contact with them as well.
