MP Eduard Babayan Does Not Appeal Conviction and Release from Punishment
National Assembly member Eduard Babayan has not appealed the ruling of the first instance court regarding him. The decision has entered into legal force, and the case has been sent to the court archive. This information was obtained from the judicial information system "Datalex."
It should be noted that the Court of General Jurisdiction of Yerevan found Eduard Babayan guilty of intentionally causing serious harm to the health of 50-year-old Viacheslav Harutyunov at the "Olympavan" sports complex, sentencing him to 3 years in prison, but then granting him amnesty from serving his sentence.
Hetq.am notes that during the investigation of the case, Eduard Babayan stated in a conversation with reporters that he would resign from his parliamentary mandate if it was proven that he was guilty of the charges against him. However, although the court's decision has been legally binding for over a month, the MP has not resigned his mandate.
After the incident involving Babayan, the police reported that, according to the complaint of the victim Viacheslav Harutyunov, he was first attacked by Gagik Tsarukyan, and then numerous blows were inflicted on him by 46-year-old Eduard Babayan, the head of security for Gagik Tsarukyan, along with another individual whose identity is being established. However, soon after, the victim Harutyunov stated that he was not attacked but had slipped and fallen. During the court proceedings, the victim also insisted that he had slipped.
Initially, Babayan was in custody during the early stages of the investigation but was released on August 21, 2018, after posting a bail of 20 million drams.
