‘Fact’. New ‘Ijevan’ Protests Expected, Coastal Village Residents to Block Roads Due to Fishing Ban
‘Fact’ newspaper reports: “In the near future, it seems that new ‘Ijevan’ protests are expected in our country. According to information obtained by ‘Fact’ newspaper, a wave of protests is maturing in several villages along the shores of Lake Sevan, particularly in Tsovagyugh, due to the government’s decision to ban fishing.
According to the newspaper's source, the residents of Tsovagyugh have patiently awaited developments before these protests, but after such a vigorous process, they intend to resort to extreme measures, blocking the M4 interstate highway. The issue is that fishing is considered the main means of subsistence in Tsovagyugh, and now the locals are faced with a serious reality, as they have no alternative means of livelihood.
However, experts believe that the ban is necessary, as it concerns the salvation of Lake Sevan. In other words, it is better to impose a ban now than to have no fish stocks at all in the future.”
