Serious Alert Received: Arthur Sakunts

Human rights defender Arthur Sakunts wrote on his Facebook page: “The employer is not a slave owner. I have received a serious alert regarding the egregious violations of the labor rights of employees at the former Shahumyan garment factory in Vanadzor.

I quote:

..... Employees from the Shahumyan garment factory are complaining, saying, 'Do something, we work without days off and until late. No one has a contract, so they don't know what to do except to convey this message. They are not allowed to sit; people are fainting and collapsing on the ground. This speaks of an absolutely enslaved situation. What is more heartbreaking is that people do not even dare to complain, raise their voices, and are forced to remain silent out of fear of losing their jobs, accepting this humiliating treatment. I doubt they are receiving high salaries or being paid for overtime. Is there no labor inspection, no supervising state body...? In such conditions, those who struggle to make a living cannot be free and dignified citizens. People, do not be afraid, stand together against such inhumane conditions; the employer is not a slave owner.”
