Criminal Report by Gagik Tsarukyan Submitted to Special Investigation Service
Gagik Tsarukyan, the leader of the "Prosperous Armenia" parliamentary faction, has referred a report regarding a criminal offense filed by the "Citizen's Decision" party to the Special Investigation Service (SIS). This was stated by the Prosecutor General Arthur Davtyan during a press briefing.
"A report of a criminal offense has been submitted in accordance with the criminal procedure code. The criminal procedure code provides for a procedure for reviewing such reports. Following this procedure, we have sent the report to the SIS, and it has been instructed to initiate the procedures prescribed by Article 180 of the criminal procedure code, carry out verification actions, and based on that, the investigative body will be obliged to provide a legal assessment," he said.
In response to a question about whether he believes Gagik Tsarukyan has violated the requirements set forth for a member of parliament, the Prosecutor General declined to answer. "If I express my opinion beforehand, I will constrain the actions of the official preparing the materials within the 10-day period. A legal assessment will be given, and if I have a different position, I will inform accordingly," he added.
It is noteworthy that the "Citizen's Decision" Social-Democratic party has submitted a request to the Speaker of the National Assembly Ararat Mirzoyan and Prosecutor General Arthur Davtyan, seeking the initiation of criminal proceedings and the process of depriving Tsarukyan of his parliamentary mandate, in connection with statements made by Tsarukyan during discussions of the draft law on amendments to the Law on State Duties in the National Assembly session hall and during interactions with journalists on April 19 of this year, considering the prohibition on parliamentary members engaging in business activities.
