The Attorney General on the Sanasaryan Case
The factual data was sufficient to charge Sanasaryan. This was stated today by the Attorney General of Armenia, Arthur Davtyan, while responding to journalists' questions in Tsitsernakaberd.
It should be noted that two days ago, the defenders of the head of the State Oversight Service, David Sanasaryan, submitted a petition to the Attorney General of Armenia demanding the annulment of the preliminary investigation body's decision involving him as an accused and temporarily suspending his duties, as well as transferring the case from the NSS investigative process to another investigative service.
In response to a question from Armtimes.com regarding the current status of the petition, Arthur Davtyan stated: “In essence, the factual data collected in the case was sufficient to bring charges against David Sanasaryan, in accordance with the requirements of the criminal procedure law. Naturally, this led to a procedural status for David Sanasaryan, granting him a rather broad scope of rights. Most importantly, he has gained the right to defense, and in exercising that right, he has already submitted a petition and will naturally present his arguments and other information known to him, which I reaffirm—there should be no doubt that a completely objective and comprehensive investigation will be conducted. We have just received the defenders' petition, which contains information that must be verified during the investigation.”
In response to our clarifying question about whether he has any information regarding directed investigations or that the case was fabricated, as claimed by the defenders, the Attorney General responded: “If at any moment I, as the supervising prosecutor, see such information or such a risk, under no circumstances will that preliminary investigation body continue the proceedings in that case.”
