Over 70 Members of Congress Join Initiative to Present Resolution on Armenian Genocide in the U.S.
More than 70 members of the U.S. House of Representatives have joined Representatives Adam Schiff and Gus Bilirakis in the initiative to introduce a new resolution regarding the Armenian Genocide.
This was reported by the Armenian National Committee of America, stating that the measure aims to reject the denial of the Armenian Genocide, recognize and commemorate it by the U.S. government, and raise awareness on the importance of preventing such crimes in the future. “Over 100 years ago, the Ottoman Empire carried out a brutal campaign of killings, violence, and deportations against the Armenian people. The first genocide of the 20th century claimed 1.5 million lives. Genocide is not a relic of the past but a constant threat,” said Adam Schiff, emphasizing the importance of Congress recognizing this historical fact.
Gus Bilirakis also stressed that the recognition of the Armenian Genocide would mark a new and bold chapter in U.S. foreign policy. According to him, it is time for the U.S. to stand against Turkey's denialist policies.
