Suspects Released in Dink Murder Case to be Rearrested

Two suspects who were recently conditionally released in the case of the murder of Istanbul-Armenian journalist Hrant Dink will be rearrested.

According to reports by Armenpress, citing the Turkish Anadolu Agency, the Istanbul court has approved the prosecutors' request to rearrest Muharrem Demirkal, the head of the Istanbul gendarmerie's intelligence department, and Erçan Gün, the director of the news department at Fox TV.

The next court hearing in the Dink murder case is set to take place from June 11 to 13. Hrant Dink, the Armenian editor of the Istanbul newspaper Agos, was murdered on January 19, 2007, in a gun attack in front of the newspaper's office. On January 17, 2012, the court sentenced the organizer of Dink's murder, Yasin Hayal, to life imprisonment, while the perpetrator, Ogün Samast, received a 22-year prison term.

In October 2014, the 5th Heavy Criminal Court of Istanbul decided to restart the trial from scratch in the Dink murder case. Currently, there are 85 suspects in the Dink murder case, including Fethullah Gülen, the leader of the Gülen movement, who has been declared President Erdoğan's number one enemy. Out of the suspects, 11 are in custody, and 10 are wanted.
