Pedestrian Killed After Being Struck by Vehicle in Ararat Region
A fatal pedestrian accident occurred in the Ararat region. Around 1:00 AM today, an unknown driver struck 58-year-old Gagik Matevosyan, a resident of Artashat, in front of house number 97 on August 23 Street.
According to photojournalist Gagik Shamshyan, the driver fled the scene, while the pedestrian died on the spot.
According to the photojournalist's information, officers from the Artashat division of the police identified that the accident was caused by a VAZ 21 07 vehicle with registration number 35 GS 165.
While the police and investigators were preparing to pursue the vehicle, a 64-year-old resident of Norashen village in Ararat region, Vrezh Vardanian, came forward to the police and reported that he was the one who struck the pedestrian but left the scene out of fear of possible retaliation from the victim's relatives. The vehicle has been transferred to a secure area under the police's custody based on the investigator's decision.
According to G. Shamshyan, police and investigators suspect that someone else may have driven the vehicle instead of V. Vardanian.
