Plans to Demolish Pablo Escobar's Fortress in Colombia
The Colombian authorities have decided to demolish the fortress of drug lord Pablo Escobar. This was reported by DW.
Located in one of the city's most elite neighborhoods, an 8-story building in Medellin is set for demolition as part of an effort to change the narratives surrounding Escobar. It is noted that the fortress will be destroyed using explosives.
There are plans to turn the property into a memorial dedicated to the victims of drug trafficking, who were killed in the bloody war against the government during the 1980s and 1990s.
According to Forbes magazine, Escobar was once among the richest people in the world. He was killed in 1993 during a shootout with the police.
In Colombia, some perceive the "King of Cocaine" as a Robin Hood figure for his charitable activities and for sharing a significant portion of his wealth with the poor residents of Medellin.
