Hrazdan and Ararat Cement Plants on the Brink of Closure

The newspaper "Zhamanak" reports that the two cement plants in Armenia, the Hrazdan and Ararat factories, are on the verge of closure. The reason is the much cheaper Iranian cement, which makes it impossible to compete on price.

This issue has existed in the past, but it has intensified now. If these plants cease operations, several thousand workers will be left unemployed. Furthermore, Armenia will lose the capability to produce such a strategic product as cement.

Georgia has banned the import of Iranian cement, and Georgian companies are looking to buy the furnaces from Armenian plants.
